There’s nothing I love more than a good long weekend. It’s the perfect excuse to have a bit of a staycation and explore your surrounds.
This past long weekend, we did exactly that! Instead of going away to one destination, we decided to stay around Sydney and explore a few.
One of my favourite locations within close proximity to Sydney is Palm Beach. Just 1 hour drive from Sydney, Palm Beach is a beautiful beach about 30km north of the CBD. It’s situated next to popular Whale Beach and Avalon Beach and is one of the most desirable beach locations for daytrips and weekend getaways in Sydney.
This time last year we stayed in a beautiful AirBnb in Avalon, where we were ideally positioned to walk to the local shops, enjoy the scenery and stroll to the beaches. This year, we elected to take a day trip to meet up with some friends for brunch at The Boathouse. Because “why not?” when you live that close!
So often we can get caught up in just going to our locals for a quick coffee or brunch with friends, but getting out of the city and away from the usual is so lovely and a little but different.
After a delicious meal and a coffee or two, we wandered along the beach front, enjoying the sun, admiring the coast and just enjoying some peace.
As well as beautiful beach, Palm Beach is known for the Barrenjoey Lighthouse, which is well worth a visit.
Located at the far end of the beach are two different paths up to the lighthouse – the Smugglers Track and the Barrenjoey Track. We took Smugglers Track up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse and were treated to iconic views over Palm Beach as well as Barrenjoey Head.
So next time you have a free weekend, do yourself a favour and explore your local surrounds!
